In the 1970s, Holland was still a fairly naive hippy paradise while smoothies and hardened crooks started to take an interest in the flourishing trade in hash.
Klaas was the son of an unfeeling yet very successful businessman and he decided to dedicate his efforts to earning money from the hash trade. He was determined to be the top dealer before hash was legalized, as it inevitably would be within a few years, he thought. He also wanted to get richer than his hated father.
With his best friend, the kick boxer Adri, and his true love Annet, he managed to gain control of the Dutch hash trade. He even grew to become the biggest dealer in Holland and bathed in money and luxury.
But hash was not legalized and Klaas was slowly but surely caught up in the violence, however hard he did his best to stay above it. The violence turned against the people he worked with, against his best friends and eventually against himself. Several bad decisions made sure that Klaas lost everything he loved. The realization that he only had himself to blame was too much to live with.
